Don recently completed a commission for over a hundred balusters for a the restoration of an 1896 historic home in Abbeville,S.C.. He also turns lamp bases for renowned potter Charlie West.
No turning is the same. Normally it begins with a “downed” tree that would have ended up in a fire pit, as chips or discarded in a recycle center. The turning process itself may take up to a year to complete. The unique characteristic of each piece depends on its difference in color, grain, healed scars and aging.
Don takes orders for custom work and gives private lessons.
